Welcome to the memorial page for

Carrene Keys Mack

December 27, 2014

Mrs. Carrene Keys Mack age 94 of Clewiston, Florida and formerly of the Browntown Community in Graceville, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Saturday December 27, 2014 in Miami, Florida.

She was a former member of Salem A. M. E. Church in Browntown.

Visitation will be Friday, January 9, 2015 from 12 noon until funeral service time of 1:00 P.M. at Salem AME Church, Graceville (Browntown Community) Florida with the Reverend Malinda Smith, pastor/officiating.

Interment will follow in the family plot in the Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Jacob City, Florida.

Carrene Keys-Mack was the first of a generation of 13 children born to her parents, Herbert Sr. and  Irene Keys.

Carrene was educated in Jackson County Schools.

She began her Christian Discipleship at age 13 when she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Salem African Methodist Episcopal Church in Graceville, Florida.  She later moved her membership to New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Clewiston, Florida where she served faithfully until her health began to fail.  Between the two, she was a dutiful servant in different capacities within the church:  choir member, Sunday School Teacher, Usher board member, Steward Board, Trustee Board, Stewardess, and as President of the Women’s Missionary Society.

She was also Past Worthy Matron of the Everglades Eastern Star Lodge #29.

Carrene was a God fearing Woman, who loved the Lord, her children, grandchildren and family in general. She loved life and enjoyed caring, sharing and giving of herself to others, not just to family, to anyone she met and saw a need. She always tried to make a positive contribution in the life and condition of others. In addition to her mission work, she was an innovative entrepreneur.  She partnered with her husband, Charlie Mack, Sr., owning several businesses in two different cities. Her life was truly an inspiration for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Sr. and Irene Keys; her husband, Charlie Mack, Sr.; her son: Chester L. Williams: a granddaughter: Renae Williams; three brothers: James Anderson Keys, Sr., Henry L. Keys, Sr., and David L. Keys; two sisters: Lucille Keys-Williams and Oselene Keys-Wynn.

Carrene’s life illuminated her faith in God and taught us all to live and love deeper in our Savior’s love: cherishing her memories are her two daughters: Isabell Humphrey (Sylvester) and Clydell Koon (Bernard); seven grandchildren: the Reverend Kenton Williams (Regina), Brendetta Reese, Ronalda Koon, Eleanor Humphrey, Wanda Williams, Angela K. Jackson (Derick), and Sean Koon; twenty great grandchildren; eighteen great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; she is survived by four sisters: Roxie Keys-Davis, Dorothy Keys-Walker, Minnie L. Keys, W. Pearl Keys; three brothers: Amos L. Keys, Sr., P.L. Keys (Barbara) and Herbert Keys, Jr. (Kay Frances); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and loving friends.

In Memory

If I only had five minutes the day you passed away,
I would have had time to tell you all the things I needed to say.

I never got to tell you how much you mean to me,
Or that you were the best, better than anyone could be.

The last time that I talked to you I wish I would have known.
I would have said I love you, and kept you on the phone.

If I only had five minutes, the morning you passed away,
I'd give you one last hug so tight and see your great big smile.
I'd tell you that I don't think I could live without you, not even for awhile.
I'd kiss your cheek and take your hand and tell you it's okay to go
And tell you that I'll miss you, more than you'll ever know.

But you were gone so quickly, one last car ride you'd take.
Before you even knew it, you were standing at Heavens gate.
Now God has called upon you, it's time to get your wings.
To leave this life behind you, and enjoy all of heavens beautiful things.
So wait for me in Heaven,
Don't let me come alone.
The day the angels come for me,
Please be there to bring me home.
