Willie Charles Robinson Jr., affectionally known as “Big Boy” by his family, was born in Marianna Florida on February 5, 1959, to Willie C. Robinson Sr. and Metterean Everett Robinson. Willie made his transition from earthly life on July 24, 2024, in Dothan Ala. Willie was a member of New Easter Missionary Baptist Church in Graceville Florida.
Willie attended St. Paul High School in Campbellton Florida and Graceville High School graduating in the class of 1977 at Graceville High School. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After 19 years and 6 months in the US Army he retired.
Upon retiring from the United States Army, he returned to his hometown of Graceville and was employed by the City of Graceville as a water treatment technician, as he had received his certification in Water and Waste Management Treatment. He then received his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and was a trainer and transporter driving 18 wheelers for Covenant Transport Co. Willie would transport from coast- to- coast continental US. He would retire finally due to medical issues. With a desire to help others he volunteered at New Easter Baptist Church Food Pantry.
As a US Army veteran he was a member of a local veteran’s group, the Dothan DAV Chapter 87 Dothan Alabama. He would “chauffer” his mom on errands and took her to get a manicure and nails done every month. He had a great love for his family and wanted to take care of family.
In high school Willie excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He would be the first black quarterback at Graceville High School. In middle school at Graceville High, he was voted “most talented.” He was his graduating class vice president. He also excelled academically while in high school. He had a love for cars keeping them pristine, driving, good music, SY-FY movies, and travel. He is known to have driven from New Jersey to Georgia round trip in 48 hours to get to an ailing family member. While in the military Willie and his family traveled throughout the US continent (Georgia, New Jersey even Alaska). The family traveled abroad to Germany several times. He had plans to travel outside of the US and recently applied for his passport.
He received numerous decorations and medals while in the Army to include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal and other ribbons and Awards. Willie was the poster soldier for the Army. His shoes were always shined, his uniform clean and pressed and always the professional. He was known for his organization skills, intelligence and family first mentality. He desired to be morally accountable and worked to do things that were right and just.
Willie is preceded in death by his father: Willie C. Robinson Sr.; a son, Shannon Latrent Weatherington and a sister: Laura Robinson Tyson.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children: Jason Weatherington of Jacksonville, Florida, Whitney Kaylyn Robinson of Atlanta, Georgia and Willie Luther Robinson of Jacksonville, Florida; his mother: Metterean Robinson of Graceville, Florida; brothers: William Roulac (Anna) of Montgomery, Alabama, Bradis Robinson of Graceville, Florida and Tommy Robinson (Anna) of Surprise, Arizona; sisters: Betty Robinson Carswell (Lee) of Navarre, Florida, Loretha Spears (Coe) of Marianna, Florida and Doris Phillips (Joshua) of Shalimar, Florida; grandchildren: Kishannon Weatherington, Christian Weatherington, Taylor Weatherington, Brystnn Patrick; partner: Linda Gilmore of Headland, Alabama encouraged Willie to be a better man by incorporating God and God’s word in his everyday life.
Willie is survived also by a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces other family and friends. He will truly be missed but not forgotten.
