SSG (Ret.) Sunday Davis Obituary

SSG (Ret.) Sunday Darline Scott Davis, age 68, of Panama City, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 29, 2024 at the Vitas Health Care Center in Panama City, Florida.

Ms. Sunday Darline Scott-Davis was the fourth-born child of Mrs. Goldie B. Scott-Hurd and Mr. Ossie Scott, Jr.  She was born Sunday, July 8, 1956, at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. Being a military child, Sunday traveled several places with her parents.

At an early age the family returned to her mother’s hometown of Bay Harbor, Florida, where Sunday attended Carrie B. Shaw Elementary School. She later attended Everitt Junior High School, Rosenwald High School, and was a 1974 graduate of Rutherford High School.  She loved her Rutherford Rams. She attended Gulf Coast College, where she majored in Fashion Merchandising.

In her junior high school years, she was invited to church by Andrea Regina Mahone-Parsley, that church was First Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Bay Harbor Community in Springfield Florida, where she became member and was faithful in the Choir, a Junior Women Representative and served on the Usher Board.  She later moved to Lynn Haven and became a Charter member and a faithful and committed Door-Keeper at the Family of God Baptist Church, Panama City, Florida.

Sunday started working at the age of 14, working at the Char-Pit Restaurant, Delchamps Grocery Store, a brief employment as a Corrections Officer at Florida Department of Corrections, Sneads, Florida.  She began working for a Government Contractor at the Naval Support Activity, Panama City, Florida in October 1984 and was a faithful and committed employee until her illness on June 4, 2020. Sunday enjoyed her time in the United States Army Reserve Unit the 833d PSC, where she retired after 20 years of service at the rank of E6-SSG.  Sunday bonded with some wonderful people. To the day she went to Heaven she was still friends with her fellow comraderies.  She loved the close-knit community of the Army Reserve. Anything Sunday did, she did it with a spirit of excellence. She loved with excellence. She loved her family and friends unconditionally.

Sunday was kind-hearted, and easy to forgive others.  Sunday was a giver, no one could out give Sunday, giving just because or for a need was just in her loving nature.  Sunday was always making sure everyone had what they needed or wanted.  She stood for what was right and loved people no matter the choices they made.  She did not meet any strangers; she was always doing her best to be the best person she could be and showing others how to do the same.  She loved her Rutherford Rams, Florida Gators and The Pittsburgh Steelers.  Sunday loved good food and she loved to

shop, no one could find bargains the way Sunday could. But when she shopped, she shopped for others more than herself.  Sunday was a Fashionista, she loved pretty hats, suits, dresses and shoes, but above all she was saved and accepted Christ early in her life and lived a joyful saved life. Sunday was 24 years old and single when she purchased her property in Lynn Haven, Florida, she did not need a co-signer or help from family, because she was a hard worker, took care of her business and she trusted God for everything.

Sunday is preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Goldie B. Scott-Hurd, her son Gabrielle P. Davis, Jr, and her great nephew, Addae M. Blue. Her brothers: Samson Scott and Elijaha M. Scott.  Her maternal grandparents Mrs. Eddie Mae Jackson-Walker and Mr. John “Daddy Bo” Walker; her paternal grandparents, Mr. Osey Scott and Mrs. Ruth Miller-Scott.

She will be dearly missed but joyfully remembered by her family, her father Ossie Scott, Panama City, Florida, her siblings: two brothers, Deacon David C. Scott, Sr. (Doris) of Augusta, Georgia, Minister Permon Scott, of Tallahassee, Florida; two sisters, Debra L.
