SFC (Ret.) Cary Lewis Obituary

SFC (Ret.) Cary Charles Lewis, the eldest child of the late Inie Ree Ables Jones, the late Roy Lee Jones, and the late Cary Columbus Lewis, was born on April 12, 1936, in Graceville, Florida.

He was baptized at an early age. He was a member of New Easter Missionary Baptist Church, Graceville, Florida. He currently was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church Augusta, Georgia under watch care.

He enjoyed watching all types of sports on television, from fishing to football, and every sport in between. In addition, he enjoyed visits with his son, “Plunky Boy”, at a facility for special needs. Finally, he found great happiness in planning birthday celebrations for himself and the rest of the family. Even last week from his hospital bed, he had decided that he and his son-in-law would celebrate their birthdays together this year, and that I needed to buy two cabbages for the birthday dinner.

He was educated in the Jackson County School System. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Vietnam War. He retired after 20 + years of service. Following his retirement from the Army, he was employed in Civil Service at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia where he retired after 20+ years of service.

After enlisting in the U.S. Army, he married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Marie Condry, on December 26, 1959. Together they welcome their son, Cary Maurice in 1964 and their daughter, Caren Marie in 1966. They were married for 33 years until her death in June of 1993.

Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death: Edward Jones, Henry Fred Jones, Margaret Jones Johnson, Russell Jones and James Earl Jones.

He is survived by his son, Cary Lewis, Augusta Georgia, daughter Caren Perkins (Philip) of Hephzibah, Georgia; two grandchildren, Latasha Perkins of Washington, Georgia, Philiph Perkins (Tanya) of Washington, Georgia; three biological grandchildren: Carri Taylor (Zack) of Anderson, South Carolina, Carrin Perkins of Hephzibah, Georgia, Camron Perkins of Hephzibah, Georgia; six great grandchildren, Jada Perkins of Lake Village, Arkansas, Philiph (Gabe) Perkins of Kennesaw, Georgia, Janyia Wilburn of Washington, Georgia, Ayden Perkins of Kennesaw, Georgia, Caitlyn Perkins of Washington, Georgia, Gavin Perkins of Washington, Georgia; two great-great grandchildren: Adyanna Lewis of Lake Village, Arkansas, James Lewis, Jr. of Lake Village, Arkansas; one brother: Willie Jones of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one sister: Margie Chatman of Slocomb, Alabama; a sister-in-law: Penelope Jones of Temple Hills, Maryland; three godchildren Jeffrey Cooper of  Graceville, Florida, Jacqueline Cooper of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Lea Francis of Augusta, Georgia, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
