Raymond (Raymold) Butler Obituary

Today we remember a man of valor and vibrant spirit, Mr. Raymond E. Butler, aka “Slick”, “Pibby” and the “Goat”, a respected member of our community and a beloved figure to his family and friends. Raymond was born on November 4th, 1949, in the warm and welcoming town of Marianna, Florida. His journey on this earth came to a peaceful end on Thursday, September 19th 2024, in Panama City, Florida.

Raymond, known affectionately to those around him by his first name, was a man whose life was marked by dedication and service. He was a proud 1968 graduate of Union Grove High School, where the foundations of his admirable character were laid. Following his education, Raymond answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army. His military career was distinguished by his receipt of several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with VD60, Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. These accolades were a testament to his courage and the spirited way he approached each challenge.

After receiving an honorable discharge, Raymond returned home to engage in various occupations that served his community. His work history included time at the local peanut mill and as a farm helper, and he eventually took on a role at Wal-Mart as a stocker. His industrious nature was matched by his commitment to faith as a member of the McChapel African Methodist Episcopal Church of Marianna, Florida.

Outside of his professional and spiritual commitments, Raymond was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed the camaraderie and competition found in sprinting, playing softball and bowling, activities that allowed his wise and spirited personality to shine through.

Raymond's life story cannot be told without mentioning the profound impact he had on his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Marvin and Willie Lee Butler, his siblings Marvin Lee Butler, Ed Jerome Butler, Mandie Jean Butler Cooper, Willie Jean Hart, Leon Butler, Lindsay Earl Butler, and a grandson, Brashod Plummer.

His legacy, however, continues to live on through his loving son, Casey Butler of South Carolina and daughter, Tameka Butler, of Panama City, Florida. His grandchildren, Takari Plummer, Mariah Williams, and Mikeal Williams, all of Panama City, Florida, will carry forward the lessons and love he imparted upon them.

Raymond is also survived by his brother, Edward Lee Butler, and wife Cassie of Tallahassee, Florida. A special son, Javon White of Cottondale, Florida; friend, Antonio Bellamy of Panama City, Florida all who felt his warmth and guidance in their lives.

The void left by Raymond's passing is deeply felt by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Each of these individuals was touched by Raymond's wisdom, courage, and spirited approach to life. His story is one of unwavering strength, boundless love, and an enduring spirit that inspired all who knew him.

As we bid farewell to Mr. Raymond Butler, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by bravery, kindness, and an unquenchable zest for life. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Raymond, your legacy will continue to guide us, just as your star continues to shine brightly in the night sky. Rest in peace, Mr. Butler.
