Mrs. Olivia Rhynes Gainer, affectionately known as Ms. Olivia, departed this world on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on Monday, November 20, 1944, Ms. Olivia's life was a tapestry woven with love, generosity, and gentle kindness.
She lived a life that echoed the values of family, community, and faith, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations to come. Ms. Olivia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Litton and Aggie Bell Jones Rhynes; her devoted husband, Mr. Willie W. Gainer, Sr.; her sisters, Mildred Pittman and Petrolia Brown; and her brothers, Cleve and Willie Rhynes; sister-in-law, Irene Rhynes, and brothers-in-law, Leron Hoover, Sr., Willie James Pittman, Sr., and Benjamin Brown; and a stepson Leo Gainer.
As the matriarch of her family, Ms. Olivia's presence was a beacon of unwavering love, a testament to strength and faith that guided her loved ones through life's many challenges.
Ms. Olivia's spirit lives on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her daughter, Rhonda M. Gainer (Jeannifer); her sons, James D. Gainer (Jerrieta) and Brad B. Gainer, Sr. (Octasia); her sisters, Lois Hoover, Helen Bostic, and Estell Snell; sister-in-law, Christine Rhynes; and her cherished grandchildren, Coyyar Aliyaha Brooks, Jada Olivia Gainer, Brad B. Gainer, Jr., and Olivia Elizabeth Gainer, will forever treasure the precious memories they shared. Her stepchildren, Constance Alexander, Lois Thompkins, Ezell Gainer, Willie W. Gainer, Jr., and Howard Gainer, along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends, will carry forward her spirit of compassion and community.
Throughout her life, Ms. Olivia was the heartbeat of her family—steadfast, loving, deeply cherished, and endlessly giving her time to those in need. She was renowned for her generous spirit, often extending her time and resources to those in need. Her greatest passion was fishing, a pastime through which she found peace and solace.
Ms. Olivia also had a green thumb, cultivating a bountiful garden each year with the sole purpose of feeding her community. Her home was a place of solace and sustenance, not only for her family but for all who knew her. Words like loving, generous, and gentle only begin to describe Ms. Olivia. She was a woman of extraordinary character, whose actions spoke louder than words. Her commitment to her family, her friends, and her community was unwavering, and her ability to touch lives was profound.
