Laymon "L.B." B. Sorey

Mr. Laymon Benjamin Sorey, known affectionately as L.B., was born on Saturday, November 2, 1940, in Campbellton, Florida, and passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and steady encouragement that touched everyone who knew him.

L.B. lived a life that spoke loudly without ever needing to raise its voice. He was a man who moved through the world with a friendly spirit, a gentle heart, and the kind of wisdom that came from years of experience, faith, and perseverance. He carried himself with dignity, and he had a way of making people feel seen, respected, and valued. His presence was calming, his words were thoughtful, and his example reminded others that a life well lived is built one honest day at a time.

Born in Campbellton, Florida, L.B. grew up with the values of hard work, humility, and responsibility. Those early lessons stayed with him throughout his life and shaped the man he became. L.B. retired from PEMCO World Air Services in Dothan, Alabama, after a career marked by dedication and dependable service. His quiet commitment earned the respect of those around him. Retirement marked the close of one chapter, but the influence of his example continued to speak long after his workday ended.

Family was central to L.B.’s life, and he loved deeply and faithfully. He was the husband of Queen Esther Pinkard Sorey, and their bond stood as a testament to love, partnership, and shared life. His son and daughter survive him, Elder Laymon Karl (Doris) Sorey and Janie “Tina” Pinkard; eight grandchildren: LaTesha Weatherington, Xavian (Demetrius) Sorey, Sr., Terica Sorey, Shanerica Davis (Lukenta), Marcus Boston (TaQuanyia), SGT Clayton Mauntrez Bullock (Shayla), Leron Hoover III (Sabrina), and Tiara Davis (Jabari); twenty-five great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley (Samuel) McKay and Wanda Pope; brothers-in-law: Truman Pinkard and Robert Pinkard; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He also leaves behind other family members who will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude.

He was preceded in death by his parents, L.C. and Thelma Curry Sorey, as well as his two of his children, Allen Clayton Sorey and Doris Jean Sorey Hoover.

The love he gave to his family was steady and sincere, and the memories they hold will remain a source of comfort and strength.

Those who knew L.B. will remember a man who was friendly in spirit, gentle in manner, and wise in counsel. He had a way of speaking that encouraged others to keep going, to stay grounded, and to trust that better days could still come. He understood that life is not measured only by years, but by the good we do, the love we give, and the hope we leave behind.
