Johnny's Bible Verse for 2020
Psalm 20:4
May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.
Johnny was born on Friday, September 19, 1958 to Johnny Sr. and Jessie Mae Riley Griggs in Panama City, Florida.
He accepted Christ an early age. Johnny served his country in the United States Army National Guard as a truck driver and was honorably discharged in 2014. He was a member of Canaan Land Missionary Baptist Church. He was very active with his church in many ministries and served as the groundskeeper for the church.
He received his former education in the Bay County School System in Florida.
Johnny was a “Grill Master”, which he did with love and attentiveness. He loved to gather his family and friends to show them his love for them.
He later met and married his soulmate, the former Mattie Watford.
Mr. Griggs is survived by his wife, Mattie Watford Griggs; two daughters: Yolanda Godwin and Cassandra Godwin; grandchildren: Tanehia Godwin, Tavoris Godwin and LaPorsha Godwin; great grandchildren: Tavon, Cylan and Charlee; sisters: Jackie and husband Clifford Farmer, Lynnette and husband Ronald Murphy and Thelma Murphy and husband (the late Billy Murphy); sisters and brothers-in-law: Annie Reynolds, Betty Barnes, Lester and husband Ben Williams, Emma Pittman, Charlie Jr., and wife Emma Watford and Joseph and wife Ravena Watford; close friends: Michael Bell, Homer Granger, Warren Madison and “Big Times”; a very special nephew, Emmanuel Watford whose taught him the trucking trade. Emmanuel remains a trucker today because of Johnny; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received a call on his 62nd birthday, Saturday, September 19, 2020, a sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. Job security is exactly 110 percent. His new mission takes him to a wonderful place where he will be socializing, dancing, grilling and to his heart’s content. He left detailed instructions for his wife and family to celebrate his mission here, which has now been completed. Low adherence to this instruction will not be tolerated.”
