James "JB Williams" Williams, Sr. Obituary

Mr. James Benjamin Williams, Sr., who is affectionately known as JB, was a beacon of generosity and kindness whose gentle spirit and selfless nature touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on August 2, 1942, in Campbellton, Florida, JB’s journey through life was one marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and his community. On July 30, 2024, amidst the tranquil surroundings of Dothan, Alabama, JB's earthly chapter came to a close, leaving behind a legacy of love and benevolence.

JB's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment. His cherished wife, Clara Maldon Williams, stood by his side as a testament to the power of enduring partnership. Together, they raised a family that included their children, James Benjamin Williams, Jr. and Pamela Williams, as well as their special daughters, Lola Roberts and Ira Cawthorn. JB's sisters and brothers-in-law, Johnnie Bright (Carl), Alphonso Maldon, Sr. (Carolyn), Charles Maldon (Anita), and Robert Maldon, Sr., along with cousins Mabel Cook, Annie Laura Everette, and James Pittman (LaTonya), enriched his life with joy and companionship.

Although JB was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Annie Mae Williams, grandmother, Zephy Williams, and his daughter, Coach Carla Elaine Williams, his story does not dwell on loss but on the monumental love and unity that remained. He was a man who built bridges of affection and understanding, creating a vast network of special friends including Robert Maldon, Sr., Simon Britt, James Barkley, John Ivory Williams, Danny Taylor, and Rick Walker. His life was further enriched by the presence of numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who became an extension of his vast family.

JB's career at the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna, Florida, was not just a job but a calling. His unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of the boys he worked with was a reflection of his profound sense of responsibility and his desire to serve as a positive role model. He retired with the respect and admiration of all who worked alongside him, carrying with him not only a lifetime of memories but also the satisfaction of having made a meaningful impact.

Beyond the responsibilities of work, JB found solace and joy in the simplicity of nature. Alongside his beloved Clara, he spent countless hours in the garden, planting and nurturing their crops with tenderness and care. The fruits of their labor were not just for sustenance but also a symbol of their generosity, as they shared the bounty with neighbors and friends. JB's love for the outdoors was more than a hobby; it was a way of connecting with the earth, with his community, and with the cycles of life and growth.

To speak of JB is to speak of a man whose very essence was defined by acts of kindness. Generosity was not just a word to him; it was a philosophy that guided his every action. His selflessness was a beacon that illuminated the paths of others, and his gentle demeanor was a source of comfort and peace. JB lived by the principle that giving was its own reward, and in doing so, he enriched the lives of countless individuals.

As we celebrate the life of Mr. James Benjamin Williams, Sr., let us carry forward the torch of his legacy. Let his memory be a call to action to live deliberately, to love fiercely, and to serve selflessly. In the garden of humanity, JB planted seeds of compassion that will continue to flourish, inspiring us all to cultivate a world where generosity and kindness bloom in abundance.

JB's story is not one of an end but a continuation. Through our memories and our actions, his spirit lives on, urging us to reach out with open hearts, to embrace our shared humanity, and to make this world a better place. Let us honor his memory by embodying the virtues he exemplified: to be generous, to be selfless, and to be gentle, in all the days of our lives.
