Sister Helen Ann Moore was born to Aaron and Mamie Capehart on May 7, 1947 in Cottonwood, Alabama. She was the youngest of seven children.
Helen was raised in a Christian Home and received her formal education in Houston County where she graduated in the top of her class at Ashford Colored High School in 1965. She married Mr. Harvey Moore of Cottonwood, Alabama in 1965. Although no children were born to this union, she was a loving and caring mother to every child she encountered.
Although Helen had been a teacher all her life, she decided to make it official and in 1990 she graduated from Troy University of Dothan with her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
Teaching was her passion and her calling. She served over twenty-five years teaching at Cottonwood High School and all her students know that “A Mind Is A Terrible Thing to Waste”. Her influence and love for her students went far beyond the classroom.
Helen dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and she served faithfully as a member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist of Cottonwood, Alabama. She also participated in various church auxiliaries but served well as a Sunday School teacher and a prominent member of the J. F. Capehart Choir.
She was known for her giving spirit and her generosity towards others. Her greatest love was her family and she was articulate in letting them know great that love was.
Those people who love her and will miss her most are her sisters: Maggie Capehart and Jewel “Sue” Chapman; her first cousins: Walter “Bully” Holland, Lee McSwain and Michael Watson; nephews reared as sons: Joseph Cody (Vanessa) of Cottonwood, Alabama, Arron Sanders, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Larry Sanders (Michelle) of Somerset, New Jersey and Michael Capehart (LaKisha) of Cottonwood, Alabama; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and coworkers.
