In humble submission to the will of God, Christian Memorial Chapel sadly announces the passing of Mrs. Dorothy Mae Hayes Stevenson, age 88.
Mrs. Stevenson transitioned into eternal rest and peace Friday, January 25, 2019 at NHC of Anniston. Although we are saddened by her passing, we rejoice in knowing that she in a land "where she'll never grow old."
Farewell, Dorothy Mae, you were tired and needed your rest. You were called forth by God, and your soul was truly blessed. We will not weep and mourn because we don't see you on this side anymore. We know that you'll be waiting to meet us on the other shore.
Sister Dorothy Hayes Stevenson was born December 16, 1930 in Marianna, Florida to John and Rosia White Hayes. She was one of fourteen children to this union.
Sister Stevenson had a nourishing spirit. She was nurse mate to many relatives including her siblings. The word “no” was not in her vocabulary when it came to helping others.. She loved to cook and feed others when they came into her warm and inviting home.
She was a member of Bethel Star Missionary Baptist Church of Marianna, Florida. She was involved in many ministries at the church including: choir member, manager of the kitchen ministry and as a cook for the church daycare school. She loved and showed loved to all the children. She also was a domestic worker for Mr. and Mrs. Joel White until their passing.
She loved her grandchildren passionately, each one knew they had a special place with her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandaughter, Shanta’ Stevenson and daughter and son: Chrisher Stevenson Swinton and Billy Joe Stevenson.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her children: Larry Hayes, Sr. (Louise) of Marianna, FL, Pastor Vickie S. Folks (Deacon Steven Folks) of Anniston, AL and Dr. Evangelist Roymonia Wilson (Pastor Richard Wilson) of Marianna, FL; grandchildren: Shannon Graham of Memphis, TN, Dana Swinton of Clarksville, TN, Gregory Hayes of Monticello, FL, Larry Hayes, Jr., Orentheal Williams both of Tallahassee, FL; Dejuan Graham, Steven Folks, Jr. of Anniston, AL; Lorinthiel Hayes of Phoenix City, AL, Reginald Robinson of Oklahoma, City, OK, Jeremy Robinson of Orlando, FL, Brett Swinton of Killeen, TX, Dr. LonTejuana Hunter Cooper (Deacon Quinton Cooper) and Brenda Hayes of Tallahassee, FL and Kamona Hayes of Monticello, FL; other relatives and friends.
