Deacon Willie J. Pittman, Sr’s life began Wednesday, October 22, 1930, in Jacob City, Florida. He was born to the Abraham and Clyde Pittman.
Willie “Buddy” joined the St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church at a young age where he served as a faithful member and Deacon. He was a member of the Jacob City Council. He was lovingly married to Mildred Rhynes Pittman for over six decades. During this time, they created a family of five children and a host of grand, great-grandchildren.
Willie was employed with the Bay Line Railroad Company for over forty years. Upon retirement, he was the owner of a car detailing business but decided to spend his time fishing and family.
Deacon Pittman transitioned on Monday, March 18, 2024, peacefully surrounded by family.
Willie is preceded in death by his parents: Abraham and Clyde White Pittman; father and mother-in-law: Lilton and Aggie Bell Rhynes; brothers: Matthew J. Pittman, Arthur J. “Shag” Pittman, and Cleveland Bailey; sister: Rena Brown; brothers-in-law: Leron Hoover, Sr., Willie Gainer, Ben Brown, Cleveland Rhynes and Willie Rhynes; sisters-in-law: Irene Rhynes and Lois Pittman; daughters-in-law: Glenda Brigham Pittman and Stefanie Kent-Pittman and other family members.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: daughters: Lucy (Edward) Owens of Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, Debera Collins of Destin, Florida; sons: Willie J. Pittman, Jr. of Jacob City, Florida, Richard Pittman, Sr. of Chipley, Florida, Lilton Pittman (Sarah) of Gainesville, Florida, Charles (Velma) Wright of Graceville, Florida and Paul Wright of Chipley, Florida; brother: Joe L. Pittman(Evelyn); sister: Lena Malone of Jacob City, Florida; sisters-in-law: Lorene Pittman of Jacob City, Florida, Dorothy Bailey of Jacob City, Florida, Petrola Brown of Newark, New Jersey, Lois Hoover of Campbellton, Florida, Olivia Gainer of Graceville, Florida, Helen Bostic of Cottonwood, Alabama and Estell Snell of Madrid Alabama and Christine Rhynes of Campbellton, Florida; fifteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, family and everyone whom he loved.
Deacon Pittman was the patriarch and foundation of his family. His legacy will be forever etched in the hearts and memories of those he loved and will never be erased.
