The Pittman Family
If when you give the best of your service,
Telling the world that the Savior is come;
Be not dismayed when men don't believe you;
He understands; and say, "Well done."
Oh when I come to the end of my journey,
Weary of life and the battle is won;
Carrying the staff and the cross of redemption,
He'll understand and say, "Well done."
David Samuel Pittman, Jr. was born January 18, 1965 in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky to the Reverend David Samuel Pittman, Sr., and Christoria Pittman.
He was baptized at an early age and was a member of St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church. David Junior was actively involved at St. Mary’s where he served as the first President of Choir #3, Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, President of the Youth Department at 2nd West Baptist Association and as an Usher.
David Junior graduated from Cottondale High School in 1983 where he enjoyed playing basketball and being a member of the marching band. After graduation he attended college in Birmingham, Alabama. He loved traveling and eating different types of cuisine. Pursuing his passion for hospitality, David Junior enrolled in Culinary Arts School and relocated to Duquesne, Pennsylvania. He excelled in the hospitality industry and worked at several restaurants and hotels in Florida and Pennsylvania.
“DJ,” as he was affectionately, called also loved music and singing. The last song he led in the choir at St. Mary’s was “Jesus Is Love.” He had a big heart and enjoyed being the “match maker” for his cousins. He always had a big smile on his face and brought laughter and joy to any room he entered.
“DJ” loved his family and had a deep and abiding devotion to his mother and respect for his father. No Pittman family reunion, Jacob City community gathering, or church service at St. Mary’s would be complete without hearing his distinctive laugh or seeing him play with his nieces and nephews or being a jokester with his favorite cousins and life long friends.
David Samuel Pittman, Jr. departed this life peacefully on the morning of December 25, 2020.
Those who dearly loved “DJ” and will continue to cherish and treasure his wonderful memories are: his parents the Reverend David and Christoria Pittman of Jacob City, FL; two devoted sisters: Christine Pittman Maree of Orlando, FL and Crystal Gainer of Graceville, FL; five nephews: Christopher David Maree of Orlando, FL, Barry Maree of NJ, Kyle Williams, Lucas Walker and Xavien Moore all of Graceville, FL; two nieces: Loren Maree of NJ and Alexandria Williams of Graceville, FL; Charisse Gray-god sister/cousin and Destiny Satoria Lovett-god niece/cousin both of Jacob City, FL; Theodore Nelson—god nephew of Orlando, FL; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and special friends who also lament his demise.
