Charlie Miller Obituary

Charlie Miller, affectionately known to many as “Cross Bone,” departed this life on April 8, 2025, at his home in Bay Harbor, Florida—a place that brought him comfort and peace throughout his life.

Born on November 30, 1956, Charlie was the youngest of eight children born to the late John and Catherine Miller. He grew up surrounded by love, laughter, and a strong sense of family. From an early age, Charlie embraced the simple pleasures of life. He was a lover of cats and could often be found relaxing in his favorite rocking chair, enjoying music from every genre—and, of course—admiring cars.

A proud graduate of Rutherford High School’s Class of 1976, Charlie began his working life at the Trailways Bus Station, where his experience in mechanics first took root. He briefly moved to Orlando, where he worked at Orlando International Airport, but his heart was always in Bay Harbor. He eventually returned home to care for his father in his final days and later shared a home with his beloved sister Carolyn, who fondly referred to him as her baby, “Charlie Boy.”

Charlie’s life was a testament to quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering friendship. Despite facing personal challenges, he never lost his pure heart or his desire to serve others. He was a friend to many—known for volunteering his time and visiting elderly neighbors throughout Bay Harbor. His generosity and kindness left a lasting mark on everyone he met.

Charlie was a hard worker, respected and loved by all he encountered. Whether on the job or in his free time, he was always willing to lend a hand, share a laugh, or help when needed.

His heart revved for anything that moved—cars, motorcycles, or anything in between. Charlie always had something to ride. His passion for automobiles only deepened over time, and he spent countless hours repairing, driving, and talking about cars with anyone who would listen. He was known as the neighborhood and family mechanic.

Charlie remained deeply rooted in his faith, often attending church with his lifelong friend Bradford (Brad) Johnson and sharing weekly Sunday calls with David “Pee-Wee” McCray. The trio, thick as thieves since childhood, celebrated life together—through fellowship, laughter, and enduring friendship.

Though he never had children of his own, Uncle Charlie was a favorite uncle to many. His playful spirit is fondly remembered through his tradition of pretending to “eat their feet and place them on the roof” or “pinching their jaws”— silly, sweet memories that will forever live in the hearts of his nieces and nephews.

Charlie leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine Miller, and his sister, Janice Marie Miller. He is survived by six siblings: Dian Champion (Cleveland; deceased), John Miller (Joyce), Deborah Jaeploe (George), Delbert Miller (Claudette), Ella Carolyn Pinckney (Clemson), and Catherine Smith (Michael); two beloved aunts, Margaret Byrd and Alberta Williams; a host of nieces and nephews; cherished friends including Pee Wee, Brad, Tim-Bo, John, and Dean; his two adopted nephews, Brent and Cory; loving neighbors; dedicated colleagues from Kraton Corporation; his beloved cats, Butterscotch and Goldfish; and his dear sweetheart, Lori Brown.

While Charlie may be gone, the light of his spirit, the warmth of his smile, and those ever-present toothpicks will forever echo in the hearts of those he touched. We’ll miss him dearly— his heart, his humor, and his kindness will never be forgotten.
