Carrie Jean Sorey, affectionately known as Carrie Jean, was a beacon of love and kindness in the lives of all who knew her. Born on February 24, 1948, in the warm, tight-knit community of Cottondale, Florida, Carrie Jean's journey through life was one marked by devotion to her family, her work, and her faith. She passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, in Graceville, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Carrie Jean was the beloved daughter of the late Charlie Lee Young, Sr. and Cleste Blaine Young. She grew up surrounded by her siblings, and though she was preceded in death by her husband, Ervie Lee Sorey, Earnestine Rhymes, Robert Young, Raymond Young, and James Young, her life was filled with the joy and support of her remaining brothers and sisters. Katherine Young of Graceville, Florida, Irene Bellamy (Dennis) of North Carolina , Ellen Joyner (Timothy) of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Charlie Young, Jr. (Mattizine) of Leesville, Louisiana, Roy Lee (Felecia) Young of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jerry Young of Spring Lake, North Carolina, and William Young of Campbellton, Florida, all held a special place in her heart.
Her legacy continues through her loving children, Gwendolyn Sorey of Campbellton, Florida, and Michael Sorey. Carrie Jean took immense pride in her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her six grandchildren, Jamie Lewis of Graceville, Florida, Michael Sorey, Jr. of Campbellton, Florida, Jeremy Lewis of Enterprise, Alabama, Nickholas Roulhac, Amaya Balcom of Campbellton, Florida, and Kewaun Abul-Ghani of Graceville, Florida, along with her five great-grandchildren, Messiah Davis, Grayson Kai-Mount, Karoline Lewis, and Ivee Lewis, brought immeasurable joy to her life.
Carrie Jean's education began at Saint Paul High School in Campbellton, Florida. Throughout her life, she remained a faithful member of New Bethel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where she nurtured her spiritual growth and community ties. Her strong work ethic and dedication were evident in her long-standing career as an Inspector at West Point Home in Chipley, Florida, where she was respected and admired by her colleagues.
Above all, Carrie Jean loved her family and friends deeply. She was a woman whose heart knew no bounds, and her home was always a place of warmth and welcome. Her loving, passionate, and thoughtful nature was evident to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her laughter was contagious, her advice was sought after, and her presence was a comfort.
A testament to her character, Carrie Jean's interests always involved the well-being and happiness of others. Her life was a tapestry woven with the threads of countless acts of kindness and moments of unwavering support. She was the cornerstone of her family, a friend to many, and a cherished member of her community.
As we bid farewell to Carrie Jean, we celebrate the profound impact she had on our lives. Her love will continue to guide us, her memories will forever be treasured, and her spirit will remain an inspiration. Carrie Jean's journey on earth has ended, but her story will continue to be told through the lives of those she touched.
