DAVID LEE “FLIP”

BARNES, SR.

 

“To everything there is a season.  A time for every purpose

under heaven.”—Ecclesiastes 3:1

 

A TIME TO BE BORN:  David Lee Barnes, Sr. was born September 21, 1951 to the Reverend Lewis and Nora Barnes in Port St. Joe, Florida.  He was raised along with his siblings:  Elnora, Helen, Dorothy (Issac), and Lewis (Josephine).

 

A TIME TO LEARN:  David received his education from George Washington High School, Class of 1970.  There, he was a skillful and talented basketball player at the guard position.

 

A TIME TO SERVE AND WORK:  David joined the United States Army and proudly served his country. He was an employee of Arizona Chemical Plant for 20 plus years.  He was a member of the NAACP.

 

A TIME TO LOVE:  David married his loving life partner of 40 years, Sedra Denise Harvey Barnes.  Henceforth, his family was extended to include in-laws: Clennis and Celestine Harvey; sisters-in-law:  Angela Harvey Duncan (Charles), Katrina McNeal, Holley Bailey; brother-in-law, Elder Donald Nickson (Jackie).

 

A TIME TO NUTURE:  David is a father to sons:  David L. Barnes, Jr.(Trish), Caldrick Robinson, Lance Larry, Eddie Hill; daughters:  TyShawn Robinson, Tamelia Hall, Sabrina Landry (Levell), LaTakka Barnes, Shanna Owens (Michael) Brittany Barnes, Whittany Barnes; grandchildren:  Trakell Barnes, Stephenus Robinson, Keke Robinson, Anthony Delaine, Arri Collins, Sha’Caldra Robinson, Payten Smith, Lanecia Larry, Kamaya Larry, Lance Larry Jr., Lyric Larry, Brailee Owens, Starr Woullard, Skye Thomas, Kayleigh Dillenbeck, Kamdyn Larry; great grandchildren:  Jah’Ryah Robinson, Jah’Mari Robinson, Jah’Siah Robinson, Aaziah Robinson, Aveonjay Robinson; godchildren:  Quashavia Manning, Fabian Frazier, Adrianna Allen, Jon and Jen Dillenbeck.

 

A TIME TO EMBRACE: David held all of his family and many friends dear to his heart; aunts:  Gwen Anderson and Edna Flowers; special nieces and nephews: Wayne, Michael, Collins, Robert, Darren, Clay, Valerie, Lorraine, Sylvia, Cheryl, Sheteta and Davina; special cousin, Benita Judson;  godparents:  Raley and Electra Barnwell; godsister: Luvenia Gordon; special friends:  Judge Sheffield, Billy Dean, Diane Morgan, Lisa Quinn, George Thomas, the Reverend Chester Davis, Carolyn and Cleo Best, Evelyn Middelton and Larry Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

A TIME TO LIVE AND LAUGH:   David was the life of the party; he got it started and finished! He will be remembered in a special way, whether it is to offer advice, or for the use of one of his catch phrases.  He was a counselor and true confidant to many. He was honest and matter- of- fact in his demeanor.  David had an endless love for his family, a passion for music, especially Charlie Wilson and loved having a good time with his family and friends.

 

A TIME TO BID FAREWELL:  David Lee Barnes, Sr., entered into eternal rest on the evening of April 13, 2017.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, father-in-law and godparents.
