Terry Clayton

October 16, 1929 ~ February 1, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old


On October 16, 1929, God blessed Richard and Mizie Ware-Clayton with a handsome bundle of joy named Terry Clayton, who as one of the sixth children of their union.

Terry accepted Christ at an early age and knew Him as His Lord and Personal Savior. Although his education was limited he was a brilliant and knowledgeable man. Terry worked numerous jobs since his youth from farming, truck driving, to being a supervisor of the Environmental Department at North Beach Medical Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he eventually retired in 1995.

During Terry’s time here on earth he blessed everyone that crossed his path. Rather he was lending a hand, encouraging with words of wisdom, or enjoying his remarkable sense of humor.

Mr. Clayton has a loving family who will always love and cherish those wonderful memories he’s impacted many lives with.

At an early age, Mr. Terry Clayton married Ms. Pecola Rivers in 1945 and in that union three daughters: Bettye Clayton Smith (Willie), Sandra Clayton Spates (John) and Vanessa Clayton Young filled their hearts with joy and happiness. After moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida he married Ms. Laura Alice Lee and was blessed with a son, Larry Darnell Clayton (Jackie). After the death of Laura, Mr. Clayton met and married Ms. Maggie Payne, where two daughters were born, Terri Nadine Clayton and Lorraine Clayton Newman (Bobby. Within this union Mr. Clayton was blessed with four beautiful children whom he loved and cherished: William Payne, Delores Payne Blango, Vera Payne Bell (Theodore) and Anthony Payne (Katherine).

Mr. Terry Clayton precedes also in death two brothers: Richard Clayton, Jr. and Auther James Clayton.

He is survived by his children; two sisters: Mary Lee Davis and Cora Lee Vaughn (Jimmy); fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family he adopted a family at the Hatton Senior House in Sneads, Florida where he resided for ten years. Mr. Clayton developed the most loving and caring friendships that anyone could ever ask for.

Mr. Terry Clayton had two special nieces: Lillie Merle Melvin and Clara L. Woodson; also his granddaughter/laughing buddy, Cassandra “Cookie” Smith, who could move him in love like no other; also a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
