Deacon Charles Parker

January 29, 1935 ~ December 22, 2014 (age 79) 79 Years Old


Charles A. Parker was born on Tuesday, January 29, 1935 to the late Minnie Smith and Horace Crawford in Bullock County, Alabama.

Charles attended school in Pike County and graduated from Academy High School in Troy, Alabama.  

In 1955, he entered the US Army where he served for several years.  He is a veteran of the Korean War and served with the 101st Airborne Unit also known as the "Screaming Eagles" and received an Honorable Discharge.

After departing the military, Charles moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida were he worked many jobs which included: Head Chef of several restaurants, Metropolitan Insurance as an Insurance Agent, Dyncorp Photo Lab on Eglin Air Force Base and the United States Postal Service.  

He attended Okaloosa-Walton Junior College and received a certificate for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic. Charles was also civic minded and very involved in equality for all people by serving as a member of the local branch of the NAACP.

Charles was a long standing member at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church and serviced as a Deacon faithfully until he moved his membership to Hollywood Church of God in Christ. He continued to serve as a Deacon diligently until he transitioned his life on Monday, December 22, 2014.

We all know that Charles had a deep passion for cooking and was an avid cook.  He was truly gifted in the culinary arts and we all will truly miss the fabulous meals that he prepared.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents: Minnie Smith and Horace Crawford; son, Albrino Parker; and sister, Ethel P. Byrd.

Charles’s precious memories will forever remain in the hearts of them that loved him the most and will be cherished by his devoted wife, Mary Helen Parker; daughter: Yolondra (Ronnie) Austin; two sons:  Raymond (Betty) and Pastor Eduardo “Niketa” (Monica) Parker; five granddaughters:  Regina (Albert) Clennons, Renicer (Antonio) Cooper, Larkezia Parks-Henry (Denva) Henry, Latoya (Donald) Square and Courtney Park; five grandsons: Raymond Jr. (Cynthia) Parker, Zachary, Bryan, Denzel Hill and Demetrice Smith; seventeen great grandchildren; two sister: Mary (Robert) Brundidge and Louise Rackley; and a his best friend, Deacon Ordangie Owens; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
