Daisy Lee Barkley

August 1, 1928 ~ February 12, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Mrs. Daisy Lee West Barkley was born on Wednesday, August 1, 1928 in Columbia, Alabama to Eugene and Caroline Benson West in a Christian home.  She entered into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, FL.

Daisy was moved from St. Petersburg, FL to Tallahassee in 2014 to be closer to her daughter, Patricia and granddaughter, Melody.  She resided at the Heritage Healthcare Center, where she was affectionately known as “Miss Daisy”.

Daisy received Christ as her personal Savior at an early age while a member at the Columbia Missionary Baptist Church. When she and her family moved to Graceville, FL, she became a member of New Easter Missionary Baptist Church.

On Saturday, March 31, 1956, Daisy was joined in Holy Matrimony to Roger Lewis Barkley in Chipley, FL.  To this union twin children were born: a son, Patrick, who died as an infant, and a daughter, Patricia.  Daisy, R.L., and Patricia moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1958.  There, they attended McCabe United Methodist Church for a number of years.  Returning to her “Baptist roots”, Daisy later joined St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, which was her church home until she moved to Tallahassee.

Daisy worked for 32 years for Dr. John and Mrs. Leona Meyer of St. Petersburg, helping to care for their home and children. Mrs. Barkley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, and six of her siblings: Naomi West, Hattie Waters, Dixie Ann Clark, Alpha Kate Roberts, Eugene West, Sr., and Samuel West, as well as her stepdaughter, Emma Jean Dickey.

Daisy will be forever loved and remembered by those left to cherish her memories: her daughter, Patricia Barkley (fiancé, Roderick Jackson) of Tallahassee, FL; a brother, Frank Edward West of Dothan, AL; two grandchildren: Patrick Jordan (fiancé, Shannon Howington-Lalande) of Pinellas Park, Florida and Melody Dorsey of Tallahassee, Florida; two step-grandchildren: Reginald Dickey and Jeris Dickey both of Tallahassee, Florida; four great grandchildren: Patrecia Jordan, Elizabeth Jordan, and Trevon Jordan all of Saint Petersburg, Florida, Kyla Jordan, Pinellas Park, Florida and Caniqua McGowan of Tallahassee, Florida; three great-great grandchildren: Khloe Wallace, Jordyn Smith and Trinity Jordan all of Saint Petersburg, Florida; a sister and brother-in-law: Juanita West of Saint Petersburg, Flroida and Baldon C. Barkley, Atlanta, Georgia; her best friend: Alma Scott, Saint Petersburg, Florida; a multitude of sorrowing nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
