Bettie Jean Ward-Griffin

Deaconess Bettie Jean Griffin was born, May 31, 1948 to the late Odell and Lillie Mae Wilson Ward in Graceville, Florida.

Bettie accepted Christ into her life and joined the Snowhill African Methodist Episcopal Church, Malone, Florida; where she held several leadership positions. Later she joined the Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, Campbellton, Florida. As a member she was very active on the Steward Board and Stewardess Board; Vice-President of the New Bethel/Saint Paul Cemetery Committee and chaired several church committees. She was a member of the  Southeastern Gospel Music Workshop Choir, as a Tenor.

On December 12, 2015, Bettie received the highest honor of ordination as Deaconess in the African Methodist Episcopal Church by the Presiding Prelate of the Eleventh Episcopal District, Bishop Adam Jefferson Richardson, Jr.

She was formerly employed at Campbellton-Graceville Hospital for 50 years as the Admissions Coordinator before her recent retirement. Bettie was currently employed with the Jackson County School Board as a Bus Monitor and served as a Funeral Family Assistant for over 20 years with Christian Memorial Chapel in Graceville, Florida.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Lillie Mae Wilson Ward and husband, Walter Griffin.

She leaves behind to cherish fond and loving memories her sister, Ida Mae Abner of Saint Petersburg, FL; a loving and devoted niece and her family, Evelyn Renee McNealy and husband Steve of Campbellton, FL; aunts and uncle: Lorraine Pettway (Roy) of Wellington, Florida and Lurene Shoats of West Palm Beach, Florida; sisters and brother-in-law: Carolyn Daniels (the Reverend Will), Hilda Russ and Eva Griffin all of Malone, Florida; Chasity McNealy, who she affectionately referred to as her daughter and Alexis Clark as her grandchildren; godson: Jezmin Russ of Malone, Florida; numerous cousins, other relatives and friends and her Christian Memorial Chapel family: Donald, Ronald, Roger, Walter, Bishop Cutler, Sr., Joe, Billy, Shirley, Queen, Alexandrina, Beth, Mandy, Taiishina, Rebecca, Keionna, Anastasia, Alvester, Elizabeth, Darlene, Gwen Mitchell, Donna and Gail.
