Sister Ardelia Pittman Blount “Dee”, was born June 15, 1924 to the late Joe and Cubie Russ Pittman.
She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and became a member of Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Jacob City, Florida where she gained knowledge and was often looked upon as the community Historian. Sister Ardelia Blount played an intricate part in the community of Jacob City, and she enjoyed organizing and participating in church affairs in which she remained faithful until her passing.
Sister Ardelia Blount attended the Jackson County Public School System and obtained her high school diploma through the Adult Education Program in 1962.
She worked in a number of vocations to include seasonal rural agricultural farmer, private housekeeping, and later she retired from Vanity Fair as a production worker in Graceville, Florida.
Sister Ardelia was united Holy Matrimony to the late George Blount over 30 years. They happily nurtured to manhood one, Leon Dean Sherman, “Deanie Boy”,
During his span of life she was committed and dedicated to serve her community and church faithfully. A testament to her lifelong involvement in her hometown included being elected to serve as part of the City Council of Jacob City, Florida.
From the early years, until the end, Sister Ardelia served on the following auxiliaries: Sunday Morning Band, Christian Aide, Pastor Aide, Senior Choirs, Tri-County Choir and Usher Union and Sunday School Teacher. Her greatest love were the children. Many young and aged today remember “Miss Dee”, “Sister Dee” or “Aunt Dee” giving Christmas and Easter speeches along with her tokens of love that consisted of quarters nickels, dimes, and gift bags filled with fruit and candy. Many will always remember that her life was filled with so much love demonstrated by her gift of giving, and her smile that impacted everyone.
On Friday, January 22, 2016, at 10:35 A.M., Ardelia Blount transitioned to eternal rest surrounded by her family at the Washington County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chipley, Florida, and is now singing in the Heavenly Choir.
Sister Ardelia Blount was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Cubie Pittman; and the following siblings: Lucrecia, Ethel C. Trudie Mae, Dora Bell, Norah, Carrie, King Moses, Maggie, Rita, Willie and Izetti.
She is survived by one son, Leon Dean Sherman (Mary Jean); three grandchildren: Tamiko Sherman, LeToya Sherman and Leona Robertson (James); one sister: Gladys Meredith; one brother: Joe Nathan Pitman; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
